Institute for Cardiovascular Sciences

Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death worldwide. Meeting the challenge of understanding and developing new therapeutic strategies requires bringing together the best scientific, clinical, and educational expertise around a shared ambition.

It is in this spirit that Université Paris Cité created the Institute Hors les Murs (IHM) of Cardiovascular Sciences in 2021, renewed in September 2025. By bringing together more than 30 of the most active research teams at both the national and international levels, the IHM now represents a unique center of excellence, structured around three founding missions.

Unite Cardiovascular Research

From fundamental biology to clinical research, the IHM fosters innovative collaborations in cardiovascular physiology and pathology by pooling cutting-edge technological platforms. In 2025, the IHM secured funding for the CITY project (Cardiovascular Immunopathology and Therapeutics for Youth), which explores the interactions between inflammation and cardiovascular diseases in young individuals.

Training tomorrow’s leaders

The IHM is developing an ambitious and structured educational program, with the creation of a Graduate School of Cardiovascular Sciences (2022) and a Master’s Year 2 in Cardiovascular Sciences (opening in September 2025), combining fundamental, translational, and clinical approaches within a demanding and multidisciplinary curriculum.

Innovating for patients and society

In close collaboration with the industry and non-profit sectors, the IHM works to develop new therapeutic and diagnostic strategies, in an approach that is scientific, societal, and ethical.
