The institute

The Institute for Cardiovascular Sciences of Université Paris Cité brings together around 30 research teams distributed across internationally recognized centers of excellence, united by a common ambition: to understand and treat cardiovascular diseases in all their complexity.

Its research themes span a broad and complementary spectrum, ranging from genetics and integrative epidemiology of arterial and cardiac diseases to vascular immunobiology, including the molecular mechanisms underlying atherothrombosis, hemostasis, and endotheliopathy.

Several teams investigate the pathophysiological bases of cardiac, metabolic, and renal dysfunctions, as well as cerebral small vessel diseases, while others focus on deciphering vascular development and cardiac regeneration at the genomic and epigenomic levels.

The Institute also explores the frontiers of therapeutic and diagnostic innovation through biomedical engineering and tissue engineering, nanotechnologies for vascular medicine, advanced in vivo imaging, and digital twins in healthcare.

Finally, dedicated teams working on vascular infectiology, inflammation, and cerebrovascular and thrombotic diseases further enrich this integrative vision of the interactions between the cardiovascular, immune, and nervous systems.

By combining fundamental science, translational approaches, and clinical expertise, the Institute provides a unique ecosystem to accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into new prevention and treatment strategies for the benefit of patients.
